Designed for those who are in for an adventure, this epic journey includes a 4x4 ride through the forest, an exhilirating shotover jet ride, going onboard the Tranzalpine Express and an optional helicopter glacier ride. Today, we ride the scenic TranzAlpine Express. Described as one of the great train journeys in the world, the TranzAlpine travels from coast to coast through vast patchwork plains, past aqua blue rivers and across the mountainous spine of the South Island. After lunch, we travel by bus to the Glacier Region. Here, we spend the night in Franz Josef in preparation for our exploration tomorrow.
Franz Josef is one of the famous glacier attractions in New Zealand and you can get a chance to take a scenic helicopter ride and land on top of the mountains to experience the powdery snow (optional activity). Those who will not take the helicopter can enjoy the cool crisp morning and take a short walk around our hotel to enjoy the magnificent view. After that, we take a long drive to Queenstown, the adventure capital of NZ. On the way, enjoy the spectacular mountain ranges, waterfalls and river scenery on the journey south. Everywhere you look, Westland rainforest tumbles across the landscape. If time permits, we visit a fruit stall so you have a chance to purchase their fresh produce the famous kiwi fruit.
An action pack day awaits as we ride a 4WD and go through the forest. Drive through rivers and roll over huge rocks and see the filming locations of Lord of the Rings. Visit Arrowtown which was once a rich source of gold. The legacy of this delightful mining town has maintained its rich heritage and preserved historic buildings. Another thrilling experience awaits as we get on the Shotover Jet. Take a unique breathtaking ride through dramatic and narrow canyons, and hold on tight for Queenstown’s only exhilarating full 360° spins and beyond.
Today will be free for you to explore the city. Try bungee jumping, skydiving, take the Milford Sound, walk around the lake or go shopping. The whole day is free! Lunch and dinner will be on your own.
Early morning flight to Auckland then transfer to Rotorua, home of the natural geysers and the heartland of Maori Culture. First stop will be the Natural Kiwi Hatchery. Get a chance to see the elusive national bird of NZ and know more about its species. Our last stop will be at Wakarewarewa Thermal Reserve. See hot pools, geysers, carving and a weaving school plus a performance from the Maori Cultural Dancers. Enjoy Hangi Dinner, a mouthwatering banquet of authentic Maori cuisine.
After breakfast, we drive to the heart of Waitomo which is famous for their vast cave systems and limestones. Hop on a short boat ride inside one of the caves and see how glowworms illuminate the place. Our adventure continues as we enter Hobbiton, the actual shooting set of Lord of the Rings. Experience middle-earth and learn how movie magic was made here. Our day ends in Auckland where we will spend our last 2 nights.
Welcome to Auckland, the city of sails! Get to know the city as we visit Harbour Bridge, Waterfront, Mission Bay, Tamaki Drive, Savage Points, Parnell Park & Village, Auckland Doman & Garden. We also enter the iconic Sky Tower Take an elevator ride 328 meters high above street level and enjoy views over the city and across to ancient volcanoes, sparkling harbours and beyond.
